The Christian Life
Educating the Heart, Mind, and Soul Evangel Classical Christian School (ECCS), a ministry of Evangel Church PCA, is nearing its 25th year of service to the Alabaster community. Founded in 2000, ECCS opened its doors to provide an educational opportunity for students of Christian parents who were looking to "train up their children in the way they should go" (Proverbs 22:6). Today's culture presents countless options for the way one can go, but ECCS exists to direct students to "the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), found in Jesus Christ, the One whom we proclaim as Savior and Lord. Not only does ECCS exist to raise up ambassadors for Christ, but we also offer an enriching academic experience that prepares our students for success after graduation. ECCS provides a classical education through the lens of a biblical worldview, and students are taught to be thoughtful writers, effective public speakers, and critical thinkers. Our administrators and teachers are committed to providing a safe educational environment for our students, a place where children can learn, grow, and thrive. We do things differently in the classical Christian classroom. Rather than using terms like elementary school, middle school, and high school, we refer to the three stages of development or what we call the trivium as grammar, logic, and rhetoric. We use these terms to illustrate the focus of instruction in each of those levels. Grammar students in preschool through 5th grade are excited to learn and enjoy games, chants, songs, projects, and stories. These activities tap into their natural ability to memorize facts. Grammar school instruction focuses on teaching these facts, imparting them to students who soak up information like sponges. Logic students in 6th through 8th grades enjoy debate and are curious about the "why" for most things. Therefore, their classes focus on finding logical conclusions to "why" questions. The rhetoric stage emboldens students in 9th through 12th grades to share their own convictions and to express their own ideas by completing presentations, research projects, and debates, moving the students toward greater responsibility and autonomy in their learning. Classical learning also involves Latin instruction beginning in the Grammar School. The study and application of music and the arts are also hallmarks of a classical education. The classical classroom is a place where the concepts of truth, beauty, and goodness are emphasized, and students are taught to recognize the fingerprints of God in every subject they are taught. The most foundational goal of a classical Christian education is to produce lifelong learners who seek knowledge and wisdom and delight in God's faithfulness, provision, and sovereignty. If you are interested in learning more about an education that is unapologetically Christian and distinctively classical, then we would invite you to visit our website at evangelclassical.com or give us a call at 205-216-0149 to set up a tour. We are now accepting applications for new students for the 2024-25 school year. David Long, Head of School [email protected] evangelclassical.com
